Why am I here? - William Q., Augusta, GA, U.S.A. May 17, 2009
William, you and everyone else are here because God is a God of love and God desires intelligent beings on whom He can bestow His love. Notice, I said "intelligent" beings; people who can respond to His love of their own free will. Free will is the key. God did not want to create robots and you wouldn't want to be one. Love requires the option of being able to say "no." Unfortunately, that is what Adam and Eve essentially said to God and that is how so many people today respond to Him. The result of the first sin in the Garden of Eden is that sin has been perpetuated down through the generations and people generally have lost knowledge of God's true character. And so, many people wonder, as you have expressed, "Why am I here?" along with the questions "Where did I come from?", "Where am I going?" and "What is the purpose of life?"
Does God forgive every sin? Now I need God to forgive my sin of the past. - Chika O., Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria April 27, 2009
Yes Chika, God does forgive every sin. Refer to the
study on forgiveness
that explains that there are different original words for forgiveness with different meanings. For instance the Greek word charizomai refers the forgiveness as it happens in the heart of the person doing the forgiving. The words apheimi and apoluo refer to forgiveness as it is experienced by the one who is receiving the forgiveness. God does not love us any less because of our sins in the same way that we continue to love our children even when they misbehave.
So God forgives our sins but we may not understand this without knowing His character and therefore not experience or feel forgiven. Knowing that God loves and forgives you will help you to feel better about past sins. Appreciation of God's forgiveness should help motivate us to stop doing those sinful things that only hurt ourselves and others. Again, refer the study on forgiveness for more details.
So there are some Bible questions and Bible answers to explain more about the character of God. Others will be posted as they are received.
